Natalie Ferguson, DNP, MSN, FNP, MSA, APRN, is currently the Assistant Director of Nursing, Community Outreach Advocate, Educator, and Support Liaison in the Department of Medicine, Hematology/Oncology Cancer Care Services at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY, for the past 4 years. She is a liaison between cancer staff, SUNY Downstate Cancer Institute, New York State Department of Health, and partners in the community. She assesses areas/communities in need of cancer prevention services, which includes identifying and assessing recent data for communities and determining areas of sub-populations that have the most need. She also works with Brooklyn Health Disparities Center and Arthur Ashe Institute and facilitates their cancer support group for patients and families. Dr. Ferguson manages the cancer genetic clinic’s support staff and encourages patient care as well as the daily orientation of the physicians, patients, and support staff in the ambulatory suite. She establishes partnerships with community-based organizations such as the Brooklyn Borough President Outreach Initiative, as well as the Office of the Mayor’s Community Outreach department. She researches available resources for cancer patients and caregivers, as well as all mental disabilities, especially autism. She is also the CEO and Founder of the Ferguson Wellness Institute Inc. which is a 5019c3 not for profit organization which is directed at caring for the mind, body and spirit of all individuals.
Dr. Ferguson is a member of the National Institute of Nursing Research, American Society of Clinical Oncology, Eastern Nursing Research Society, Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science, and Psi Tau Chapter of SIGMA Theta Tau International Nurse Honor Society. She is also a member of the Plant Based Health and Nutrition Committee, Faculty Senator at the Center wide Faculty and Professional Staff Assembly, the Nursing Council for Research and EBP Committee at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, as well as the Committee on Public Policy Nurses Association of the Counties of Long Island. She is also on the Executive Board and is the Block Association Chairperson of Community Board 17 in Brooklyn NY.
Dr. Ferguson holds a doctorate degree in Nurse Practice and an MSN, Family Nurse Practitioner, both from SUNY Downstate Medical Center, College of Nursing, with awards in nursing leadership, as well as an MSA degree Cum Laude from Central Michigan University.
