Equipping Oncology Nurses for Phase I Trials: Survey Sheds Light on Attitudes, Knowledge, and Skills

A new study provides “valuable insights” into the attitudes, knowledge, and skills of oncology nurses related to drug administration in phase I trials.

Tahani Al Dweikat, EMHCA, MSN, RN, OCN, CCRP, EBP-C, of the City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center, and colleagues conducted the study and presented their findings during the 49th Annual Oncology Nursing Society Congress.

It was important to conduct the research because phase I clinical trials “represent the first studies conducted in humans” and “nurses play a pivotal role in this phase including patient education, administration, and vigilant reporting of adverse events” in this setting.
