Social media is a promising communication platform to raise awareness and educate the public about health topics. An analysis of the CONNECT study sought to find out if adding palliative care to oncology care could reduce nurse burnout. Trained palliative care nurse practitioners in oncology clinics allowed for early and integrated delivery of palliative care. Oncology care nurses specializing in palliative care should receive prior training to decrease the likelihood of burnout. A specialist community palliative care team may have a positive effect on the reduction of acute hospital admission. Caregivers of people diagnosed with metastatic advanced cancer provide hours of care to their family member. Researchers randomized 75 patients (with 18 caregivers) to watch a six-minute video depicting hospice care. Studies show that oncologists deliver bad news to patients about 35 times a month. There is limited research on a patient’s ability to consent for clinical research during this timeframe. "Health system leaders should prioritize palliative care training for critical care nurses and colleagues," authors wrote.
