Oncology Nurse Navigator Discusses Cancer Screening Safety Net Project

Paula Aguilera, RN, BSN, OCN, of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Cancer Care Equity Program, discusses creating an oncology nurse-led ambulatory safety net for cancer screening during the 49th Annual Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Congress.

Ms. Aguilera, an oncology nurse navigator, has been working with a patient navigator and a project manager to implement the safety net for screening, and she presented a poster on the project during the ONS Congress.

“We’re focusing on the 4 main types of cancer—colorectal, lung, breast, and prostate—that we have screening exams for, and we’ve embedded ourselves in the community," she said.
